Earlier this year, I bundled up, grabbed my paints, and set up outdoors at the Old Mellifont Abbey ruins. It was early morning — the kind of light that makes everything look a little magical — and there were still tiny patches of snow clinging to the stones, slowly melting away.
As I painted, I couldn’t help but think about how everything we see, touch, and love is only here for a while — just like that snow. The abbey walls have been standing for centuries, but even they are slowly softening into the earth.
This painting is my way of holding onto that fleeting moment — the quiet, the golden light, the hush before the day begins.
